Countdown to the Women's World Cup. Begins!

We are pleased to see the publication of the players invited to the first training camp at the end of this month, which will be held in Goteborg. Some surprise omissions and inclusions in the list, with quite a few old faces and a few new ones. The returning FK has obviously his own ideas formulated presumably, from his previous experience in charge. As they are due to play Wales in November, it will be interesting to see who is selected for that trip. We would hazard a guess, that it probably will not be much different from the victorious EM squad, but like a lot of others, we will wait and see.
The next question that we have and it may be viewed in some areas as controversial. is, who will be the Captain? Will Jonas stick with the current incumbent, or go for someone completely new? There are one or two ex-captains who are on the list, or will he be bold and choose an unknown, for example 'Ygge' who, on her day is the outstanding forward in the country and had a sensational EM. We guess only time will tell.
The Squad is:-
Jennie Ehlin          Ulrika Andersson Hall    Ellinor Borjeson O'Brien
Lotta Abrahamsson    Jessica Berntsson     Erica Storkenfeldt
Sandra Eldfast            Anna Holmstrom      Susanne Nilsson
Henrietta Hogberg     Johanna Gustavsson  Sara Sexton
Jennie Ohman            Anna-Lena Swartz    Carolina Madsen
Lina Engdahl              Lina Matsson           Kerstin Lovendahl
Amanda Sandsborg   Louise Ericster         Annika Hector
Pauline Sarg              Elin Wallstrom          Ninni Giebat-Johansson
Jenny Sahlin              Fia Framling              Lina Norman
Emma Wallering       Karin Hedlund           Minna Ahlstrom
Anna Larsson           Lina Olofsson            Sara Akermann
Rebeka Sundell        Alexandra Johansson  Jennifer Lindholm
Malin Ericsson          Madeleine Lahti         Susanne Olofsson
Johanna Norberg      Therese Forsberg       Zofia Pershon
Katarina Bohman      Sofia Torstensson      Lotta Westin
Jennie Olsson           Malin Johansson         Elisabeth Osterberg
Elisabeth Ygge          Erika Andersson        Frida Rydberg
Sofi Bjorkman          Jessica Melin              Elin Pettersson
Victoria Svangren     Cecilia Burebrink       Christel Fredriksson
Rebeka Lind          Rebecca Stafhammar    Karen Grudd

So a predominance of players from Exiles and Goteborg, but will they all survive the cut to the squad?

  3. Well how does one comment on this? If you mean old as in age, then there are quite a few who it could be said are at the veterans stage in rugby, so those who are 35 and older. would fall into that category. However, we are much too polite to divulge which players they are.
If you mean, old players returning to play in the World Cup, yes there are a few of those and there talents can only enhance the squad.

  4. Sara Åkermann och Johanna Norberg är två mycket duktiga spelare som inte var med på EM, men som nu är tillbaka i landslaget igen. Om de är i samma form som tidigare år så blir de en stor tillgång till laget.

Hello there, Barmy here. What a spiffing idea a new blog. Haven't had time to read everything as I have only just discovered the bally thing. Looks pretty good so far, what. I have been away on my tour of duty, travelling around the world to the more exotic locations where ruggers is played. Enjoying the hospitality and nightlife. Oh and watching some games to boot. What do I find when I return? chaos yes chaos, a new chappie in charge of the ahem, ladies! I thought after my last missive that we had resolved this and put a stop to such a farce. Now once again, I will have to try and get the Board to see sense and ensure that the lovely young things are encouraged to know there place. We don't want to see these lovely young things covered in mud and with bruises on their bodies, do we? No of course not, so never fear chaps, Barmy will do his best. Must dash, lunch awaits.

Barmers old chap, where have you been. You will be flabbergasted at what has happened here. These blogger chappies say there will be a WOMEN'S rugby world cup. They say that SWEDISH WOMEN will play Rugger, in England of all places, against women from other foreign countries.

We must try to do something.

  8. Good God man, whatever is happening to the World? Those dainty young fillies prancing over the paddocks in Blighty, will wonders never cease? World Cup as well, still Twickers is still a part of the Old School,so they surely must be excluded from that.
As for the other thing you mentioned. Drats, I thought that had all been forgotten! Will I never live that down? Got to go and have a stiff one now, Roger and out.

Barmers, good you didn't let them have Twickers for their world cuppie thing. Can you imagine women on the cabbage patch. Clarkie would be turning in his gave, if he was dead.

I still remember you grabbing Thommo by the cloisters! Brought tears to the eyes.

    Affectionately
