Some Interesting Thoughts?

We make no apology for copying a view from Sweden's leading rugby club website. It is a view by a well respected person within the Swedish game and we feel that as many people as possible should have the opportunity to read it and perhaps comment on it.

Notes on National Team selection

1 Oct 2010
A number of question marks about the squad selected for Croatia/Lithuania.
Eight players from Enköping, a club with a 7-1-4 playing record this season. Forwards based on Enköping, a pack which has been pushed all over the park all season by the other three leading Swedish clubs. Backs based on Enköping who have recorded a 1 – 12 try count against Exiles at Årsta in the last few weeks.Alex Taylor, Andrew Daish and Andrew Saunders recorded as playing for Nuneaton, Old Albanians and Richmond, three clubs in the English national second division. No record of any of them playing for these clubs this season, at least for their first teams. Lee Sandberg plays regularly for North Walsham, a team in national division three. Sebastian Taylor is out of Old Habberdashers, a team which plays at level seven in English rugby, motto ”We never train”. Club website not updated since the summer.
Interesting to know coach Mike Tatus thinking behind this selection and which channels he uses to obtain input.

  1. The question isn't where they play, but rather if they are good enough. I think they are, and I have played together with most of them.

  2. I think the coach should believe in Swedish rugby rather that simply pick players from England without seeing them play all season-

  3. Paul Sullivan, good enough for Sweden, but not good enough for the exiles!

  4. If thats true then that is shocking. Players from England not playing or at a very bad level. How is mike tatu picking these players? Players from lower divisions getting picked in front of players in the elite ! ie The front row ! How is a prop picked from attila and vanersborg and then expected to play against international props ? Are they picked only because they are from tatus and svensons clubs...if that is true something has to be done. The board has to be asked serious questions. There are better players playing in the elite and are in good form. The hammarby front row were stuffed yersterday. So you have 2 front row from hammarby and 2 from lower leagues and a hooker playing in the backs. That front row will get screwed. Sullivan has been on the bench all season but gets called up in the backs ? For Sweden to go forward it has to start from the top and right now theres no direction.

  5. alan letele is still a top back rower.he had a great season with spartacus but is not chosen. mike tatu saw him play against hammarby and he is not picked. somthing is wrong!!! the spatacus prop destroyed the hammarby prop in the same game hes not picked is it cos thay play in spartacus.

  7. The fact that the current Exiles team, on its day, could probably beat the national team justifies the selection in my opinion.

That said, if the position of coach does arise I would like to put forward Keith 'dildo' Schofield for his efforts at the club in what should be an inevitable victory in both league and cup.

    Booooooooooooooom!

    P.S... I still love ya

  8. It is an absolute disgrace that Sullivan was chosen for Sweden. He was the weakest player against Croatia and continually allowed his opposite to get around him. He isn't even good enough to play for Exiles. I can't believe that the Njuru brothers aren't playing together for Sweden. In yesterday's final their defence was like a rock and the younger brother has blinding speed. Old man Sullivan had to be wheeled on in his wheelchair near the end of the game. What a joke! Sack whoever selects these teams. No wonder Sweden Men doesn't do as well as the ladies when the selectors continually make these biased selections

  9. Why do we need all of these players from England in our squad. Build our test team around our Elite players that play in Sweden. Is it because Tatus is coaching.

At least have a coach that coaches an Elite team that gets to see the best players every week and can make judgements from what he has seen over the year. Not a coach like Tatus that never sees these players and just picks people from previous squads rather than players in form.

When does Tatus contract end. SACK HIM NOW if we are to improve our mens team rankings

  10. I would love to see that - Exiles V any team......just with their SQ players. See how well they do then. They might stand a slim chance of beating Vänersborg, but no elite team.

We keep hearing about this robust long-term development plan, but the only thing long-term about it is that it is taking a very long time to actually see it.

They keep rolling out the excuse ¨but we are a team made up of exiles¨ but that's not what people detest about them. It's the fact that they think they can buy a SM with money rather than using their own homegrown talent.

I would like HMSr to publish how many of their youth players actually go on to play A team rugby for Exiles. I think they do an amazing job with the juniors but the fact is none of them go on to play A team as they committee are more interested in buying in players.

    Boooooooooooooooooooooooom!

  11. those idiots from hammarby keep going on about the players at exiles. stop moaning and just get on with it that way you might just win!

  12. Dont those idiots from exiles realise that not everybody who reads this blog is from Hammarby. Exiles appear to have a hammarby complex. They have to also realise that its not only players from hammarby that don't like what exiles are doing for the state of the game in sweden.

If im not mistaken it was an arrogant exile player who said that the exiles team could play theswedish national team and beat them.

For the record im not from hammarby and i still think the exile comments are arrogant.

    Boooooooooooooooooooom!

  13. I think the players in question in original post from exiles blog, would ruin exiles foreign players and have played higher level then all of them anyway - 2 of them having played full time rugby a few years ago and the fittest in the team now. And surely all justify their place in the national team from past performances and leadership, if not the corner stone of the team. Shame to see this blog is starting to behave like the other one. Grow up and support the team, selection can be questioned but not from a team with 2 sweden players in it and hardly anyone else to choose from.
