A Tale of Two Balls

I know that we are in a far flung corner of the World. But as we watch the Thames freezing over and England struggling to get to grips with all this snow and ice, we have been keeping an careful watch on the Swedish Rugby scene. Although it's the close season over there, we have heard that there is a lot going on behind the scenes with the National Squads. Now news reaches us that one of the clubs in the West, GRF have reviewed their position and have decided that if they have another season like last, then the men are going to play with the round shaped ball.
After informing everyone that he would not be coaching the men this season, Neil has now found another team that will benefit from his expertise, and there will be a football team sharing the facilities.

So, let's hope that this alliance benefits the club, but most importantly the Rugby teams.

  1. I heard that team are in for a tough yr , their captain wants out , they are bringing a soccer team into the club ,player defections ,retirements ,they could struggle for numbers especially when playing our strong northern teams.Maybe they should join with spartacus otherwise both teams will be cannon fodder for us and the elite series will be no better than playing Bromma.

  2. I wouldn't rule GRF out so easily. They have a great youth system and a good coach. They lost by a single score both home and away to Hammarby last year, and they lost by a score to Enköping.

  6. I understand them; losing to Spartacus twice and not taking a point in the Elitseries must be hard on there self image.
Problem with GRF/GRK is that they never seam to get the club going even though they had top player quality in abundance. Don’t get me wrong, but with one of the best coaches in Sweden, nice club house/pitch and x numbers of Swedish or former Swedish national players one could ask for a bit more.

  7. Think they are a bit to far up there own arse?
Only 2 players in Swedish squad last season the captain and alan letele. Both good players not sure about the rest and the season seemed to show that. There coach has gone so a new one started maybe he can turn it around so that they can at least beat spartacus this time.

  8. Don’t know if they have gone bad, they have a more serious pre season schedule then most (all?) elit clubs, 4 times a week!

  9. Its pretty funny that the persons writing this blog are both members, or previous members, of Gothenburg.
For your notice, "the captain" didnt "leave". He was voted out by an unanimous vote. Then he tried to start a third club in Gothenburg, failed miserably, and now tries to salvage his own reputation by throwing shite on the coach who started and built a club from nothing.
Thanks for the positive comments about Gotheburg Rugby Club, its always appreciated!

  10. Well thank you Lukas. We just have to correct you though. Small detail, but we think it's important. None of the contributors to this blog are or have been members of GRF.
As for starting a third team in Goteborg, that seems a bit far fetched, do you have any details, that would make a good story, please let us know.
Finally, as far as we can tell there has been no throwing of the brown stuff towards the ex coach of GRF as far as we can tell it's been positive. But of course you are allowed your views.

  11. Does anyone actually know who the captain was last season for GRK? as they had so many injuries.

Would be interesting to see what players are wanting out and what players are hanging around to train 4 times per week. Who is the new coach?

  12. Lukas,

Not very fair on the old Frolunda club to say that GRF was "built from nothing".

  14. Ha ha Lukas...
Paul has not been voted out of the club are you mad ? Captain of the last two years and best player we would have to be crazy.
As for starting up a third team in Göteborg ,i am a friend of Paul,s and i think i would know.In fact i think he would prefer one team as he does not beleive Spartacus or Göteborg have the depth for 2 teams.
I know for a fact that Paul has stated he does not know who he will play for next year but will make a decision when he gets back from New Zealand. The reason for that is best to ask him..
I hope he still plays with us !

  16. Was John Anderson involved with building the club?
Cannot think he would be to pleased with someone else trying to claim all the credit.
