What's in Store for 2011?

As pre-season training begins or continues for some, we too have decided to come out of hibernation and carry on with the enjoyable task of writing and publishing this blog. Please do feel free to offer your own contributions, should you wish, and providing that they are relevant and acceptable, we will be more than happy to publish them. You can submit articles via 'trueswedenrugby@live.com' or just post your comments as and when you wish.

So what's going to happen in the Elite series this year?

Are Stockholm Exiles going to recruit yet more players from abroad in an attempt to retain their title. or will they start to give their talented home grown players a chance?
Enkoping have been busy recruiting and we hear that two players from Göteborg have signed for them. Obviously disappointed with their season last year, there appears to be a deliberate policy to improve things, will it happen?
Hammarby will be looking to improve upon last season's outstanding success. Rumours are that they have also been recruiting and look for a surprise transfer into their ranks from another Swedish club.
What about the surprise package of last season, Spartacus? Will they be able to improve upon their standing of last year, or will they regress?
Göteborg have lost two important players to ERK, so what effect will that have on them? They will be hoping for an improvement on last season. Will they get it?
Newcomers Atilla will be hoping to take a few scalps and we hear that they have also been recruiting, will it work for them or will they struggle?

  1. Exiles to recriut more, Enkoping to be stronger , Hammarby to go backwards, Spartacus to retain Hale as coach and make final, Gothenburg and Attila to fight for wooden spoon..

  2. Which Gothenburg players are going to ERK?

Exiles are planning to recruit more players and bring back some from last year as well.

Not too sure how Hammarby will do this year, but they could probably do with a few more players.

I'm hearing rumors of discontent in the Spartacus camp. Older players not too happy that the club is paying newer players, aparently

  3. Spot on. Don,t think Spartacus will make final unless they recruit like the other teams. Hales made a huge difference and it will be interesting to see what he comes up with this year. Enkoping will be back with a bang and i think it will be between them and Exiles.

  5. ERK have recruited the Bosnian Bomber, the young nr 8, who playing for Vänersborg juniors decided the Junior final last year. Previously during the season he played for GRK seniors. In addition they recruited Sami Paulsson from Trojan late in the year last year, which meant he was not eligible for the playoffs. The year before they picked up Tobias Borg from Linköping. ERK are and have always been skilful at picking up talented players from other Swedish clubs. Unclear if Ricky Okpus legal situation has been cleared up, i.e. if he is still under contract with ERK or if Hammarby have managed to arrange his release from said contract. Spartacus need to improve on the road, they appear to suffer from the Pingvin syndrome, i.e. a buggar to play against on their home pitch, but significantly weaker when they travel. I expect that ERK, Hammarby and Exiles will all be at roughly the same strength as last year. Winner to be decided by squad depth in general and in the front row in particular.

  6. what i saw in the spartacus team is that they dont have a backline. So if they get some good players there they could be really dangerous, like they played a swedish international hooker at flyhalf another hooker at 12 and a backrow at 13 and really unexperienced wingers.

  8. It is so funny to see how people are thinking.
    1. Spartacus paying player's? Do any one believe that the have that amount of money? I don't think so. Maybe pay for some expenses but ho doesn't.
    2. Mike Hale did good thinks, But don't forget al the hard yards they did before him. And what exactly did they change in playing stile, after he took over?
So what did he do moor than coach a side that had a lot of quality's before he was there?
    Is Jonas gone?
Why did he go last year?
He was there and did al the hard work to make Spartacus what they are today, if he wouldn't have joined them, then i don't think they would exist today. So Mike hale did do well but Jonas Ahl did wonders to Spartacus.
    3. Enköping is smart and they are taking a lot of talented players to the club, maybe moor clubs should look how they do this year after year?
    4. Hammarby will fight this year again and will be stronger than last year.
    5. Exiles we always know going to be there and yes they do like Enköping, Hammarby and Spartacus fly in star player's. Al of us should be happy that they do, otherwise we would see only poor quality rugby.
    6. Attila has a long season in front of them. I think they will win at home against Göteborg and Spartacus but there it will end.
    6. Göteborg will have a weary hard season, and they will go down. Win at home against Attila if they have a good day.

  9. Spartacus are not paying players a wage or anything. The problem was that they were giving some players travel expenses and not telling the others. So some players who travel from far away to train each week got nothing, while others (who only showed up now and again) got petrol money.

At the team meeting, it was put to the team that they want to bring in players and give them jobs and acomadation this season. About half the team were for it, and half against it. The "newer" players who have come from other clubs think it's a great idea, but some of the older players don't think it's what Spartacus is about.

  11. jonas Ahl didnt seem to do much for the womens national team! The older players (Swedes at Spartacus are just being protectionist about their places in the team when they are not good enough or fit enough!)

  12. Those older players at Spartacus are probably losing their starting spots or not even making the squad. Every club in Sweden helps out new players with accomodation and finding jobs. Playing against Spartacus last year there new players made a huge differece !!! , the year before we flogged them by a lot of points. Hope a few older disgruntled players do not spoil the club on becoming a force in swdedish rugby for their own agendas.
