Men's National Squad for Latvia

Following on from the successful win against the Danes last weekend, the squad to take on Latvia in Riga on the 17th April has just been released. There are some interesting changes, with one or two surprise omissions and inclusions. Dominated by players from Enkoping as expected, with the Northern clubs and the overseas players making up the majority of the squad. It's a surprise to see two players from Vanersborg and none from either Pingvin, Spartacus and Gothenborg. Although Spartacus do have two excellent players on the reserve list.We trust the decisions made by the FK will prove to be the correct one.

Alex Taylor (captain) Nuneaton
Andrew Daish Nuneaton
Lee Sandberg  North Walsham
Magnus MacDonald London Scottish
Sebastian Taylor Old Haberdashers
Matt Youngman Enkoping
Bobby Nave Enkoping

Paul Mathews Spartacus
Jan Olof Johansson Spartacus
Stefan Obradivic Attila
Daniel Legge Cambridge
Ivar Bengtsson Hammarby

With some very good players left at home, there must be strong rationale behind the decision not to take them. The best of luck to the players and we look forward to a positive result.

Who are they? Please write who you want to play in the Swedish team.

  2. Tatu seems to be losing the dressing room.Players are losing faith with his decisions and then lack of imput into the squad. Some people are questioning whether he wants to be the fk.His selections oF vanersborg players are ridiculous , they are just not good enough and are an embarassment to the squad.

  3. with janne paul m daniel and ivar left at hemma this squad would be stronger and its a must win game. so bad call by selectors to pick players from fks club thay are not good

  4. The only talk that goes on in the forwards is the players. There is no coaching at all. There needs to be more coaching and less talking. This is a must win for swedish rugby.

  5. This seems to be a bit strong against Mike Tatu. Surely he knows what he is doing? He is a vastly experienced player and must know the qualities of his Vanersborg players. If he believes that they are better than Daniel Legge then we must accept that he knows best!

  7. Daniel Legge haven´t been on any trainingcamps, so probably that´s reason he isn´t picked. The only things which need to be change is to find a prop instead of McDonald, because he doesn´t do much on the pitch. But I know he knows that : )

Ok, MacDonald here, you wanna talk about my play, come to me. If as I suspect, this comes form a squad member, MAN UP and talk to me in person.

  10. So, Anon... Who would you pick instead if Magnus? Personally I would have Magnus in my team every time. Very solid and experienced player.

  11. MacDonald No it isn´t! It´s a swedish guy who just looks at the videos and assume you are so mature so you know what you are doing and what you do on the pitch : ) It´s nothing about your personally. It´s the same with Mike Tatu against Latvia and some other toooo oooold players who has friends who pick them anyway. We need experienxe players but when they don´t deliever any longer they should understand themself it´s time to do something else like be a coach instead. It doesn´t help the young players to get more experience to sit on the bench because some old players thinks he is better.

  12. So Anon, The question remains.... Who would you pick instead?

    Ok Anon, noted!

I agree with you, the best way to get the experience is to play. With the current crop of young props coming through, where do you strike the balance of giving them game time to get gainful experience at Test level as opposed to being out of their depth (if you never play them you will never find this out)?

Part of the reason I am still playing and am involved with Sweden is so that I can pass on my knowledge to younger players. Thankfully, this year we have had more training camps and this has allowed me to do this..in part.

I still feel that I do have something to offer on the paddock and yes my fitness should be better, and is something I am working on. I know that I am still capable of playing at this level and whilst, yes, perhaps not one for the future, you only have to look around the rugby world to see that props are playing longer now.

A question for you Anon, if I did more around the paddock (not just the stuff you don't see) would my age be an issue?

I don't think I am better, I do not select the side, that is down to the management. If asked to play, I play. If asked to sit on the bench, I ask the management why, and, accept their decision. If not selected, it hurts.

The future bodes well for Swedish rugby. I agree with what Mike Tatu is doing, by bringing younger players to training camps, thus giving them more experience in the Senior Squad environment, this can only be a good thing. It also gives coaches time to assess these players in this environment and the players standards to aspire to.

Why don't we all pull together and get behind Swedish rugby as a whole, the Mens, Ladies, Sevens and Juniors. Surely that would be much more beneficial for the game in Sweden?

P.S. Anon, do you know of any coaching roles available for an old forward???
